Musical Theatre

Come learn an energizing combo to Nobody from the musical Bandstand. Have fun while gaining confidence through musical theatre dance. Open to all levels.

Jazz Choreography

Learn exciting Jazz choreography in an hour! Class begins with a warm-up and then dancers get right to work on learning a dynamic jazz routine.

Attentive Movement

Explore innate creativity through Attentive Moving, a physical practice of listening for and to inner impulse. We will each act as mover and witness exploring movements that are attuned to the moment through Attentive Moving and then re-embodying impulses with voice and/or body and writing/drawing from each experience. No prior dance experience required. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in and bring a book or paper to write/draw with.

Cape Breton Step

Cape Breton Step Dance - Cape Breton Step Dance is a hard shoe, percussive style of dance unique to Cape Breton that is said to have originated in the highlands of Scotland, Ireland, and Cape Breton itself.  Dancers are noted for dancing with straight backs and emphasis of the body is from the knees down.  The footwork is very much kept “close to the floor. This class will focus on the fundamental steps that connect the dancers to the different types of songs that are danced too.

Intermediate Burlesque

Dip your toes into the Sparkling world of Burlesque!

A fun, sexy, jazzy dance number, complete with the option to practice your peel!

Bring your heels, and consider a couple of extra layers to take off if you're game. We will be exploring individual choices, self expression, and character throughout this choreo. We will be turning and kicking, so some dance experience is an asset.

In this class you will learn various lead-and-follow frameworks such as open, close, Dominican, modern/urban positions. You are also introduced to fundamental lead and follow techniques, including rhythm recognition, simple turns, change of place, and step touches.

Music Theory for Dancers

This class will work towards having a greater understanding of the music that we dance to. We will look at the way songs are formed and notated so that you can create a closer relationship to the music, whatever style of dance you are doing. Dancers will learn some simple exercises to elevate their understanding of music theory and bring their dancing to a new level!

Intro to Cuban salsa : A whirlwind tour of the basic steps, rhythm and timing of this "street" version of salsa.​Great for dancers of all skill levels from zero to hero.

Whether you are a beginner or have prior experience, you'll enjoy immersing yourself into the art of ballet, its technique, class structure and full body benefits. Ballet's focus is to train dance students to use their bodies correctly by focusing on kinetics, coordination, anatomy and proper body alignment.

Absolute Beginner Tap

Tap dance has many benefits such as improving one’s balance, coordination, mental and muscle memory as well as being a fun way to obtain cardio conditioning. In this class you will be introduced to the rhythms, timing and musicality of some of taps core steps.

Zumba is a form of fitness class in which you burn off calories by dancing to different kinds of lively tunes, often Latin-American inspired such as salsa, merengue and samba, but also other types of modern music like hip hop, Bollywood or even Oriental. It is a high-energy dance fitness program involving moves on international beats. All around the world, Zumba is being practiced owing to its health benefits, including mind relaxation, stress management, and physical fitness.

It is the best way to exercise and stay fit while having Fun. So come and join the Party!

Swing Dance

Swing dance is gaining new popularity because of its highly contagious energy and fun foot work. Swing dance is a social dance that grew out of Harlem, New York City in the late 1920s. It continued its popularity through to the late 1940s. The Lindy Hop is its most popular form because of the fun swing beat in Jazz music. Bring a partner or come alone. Everyone will love this social and invigorating dance form.

Contemporary Floor Work

Contemporary and modern dance choreography and technique requires dancers to navigate between higher and lower levels. Learn how to relax your body and find flexibility in your joints as you develop a new kinesthetic relationship with the floor. Class begins with a warm-up, followed by exercises that facilitate a relationship between the body and gravity. Dancers will also learn a floor work combination.

This class focuses on improvisation as an ensemble practice. Using a shared set of movement systems and scores we will learn to co-create movement. You will learn how to source movement from within yourself and from the environment around you, understand time in your body, and techniques for working as an ensemble. In all this practice we will always be asking the question “What does the space need?”

Contemporary dance is based in ballet and has its roots in modern technique. The form also borrows from other genres, such as African dance, jazz, hip hop and martial arts. Some of the cross features are the use of parallel legs, contraction and release, spiral and tilting of the spine, grounding, embracing gravity and floor work.

Combining strength and flexibility, jazz employs movements that are quick, clean, precise and percussive. Dancers will experience the traditional structure of a jazz class and learn a dynamic combination.

Are you ready to unleash your inner rhythm and explore the timeless art of tap dance? This class is designed to:

Feel the Beat:** Explore the fundamentals of music theory and rhythm as they apply to the mesmerizing world of tap.
Master the Techniques:** Develop your skills with essential tap dance techniques.

Contemporary Choreography

Experience the creative process of contemporary choreography. Class will begin with a warm-up and then dancers will learn sections of choreography. Marcia will guide dancers on how to vary the choreography using various elements of dance. Then dancers will have the opportunity to add their own creative perspective to the work. Think of it as a choose your own adventure where everyone's input produces a beautiful new original piece of work!

Pilates incorporates low impact exercises designed to improve strength, mobility and alignment. A core-targeted practice with a focus on syncing breath and movement, participants will challenge their balance and coordination. No experience necessary.

Yoga Dance Conditioning

In this 45-minute class we’ll dive into what we need to strengthen and stretch for Adult dance

classes. We’ll use Yoga as our practice to assist us by moving in and out of postures to find more

strength and flexibility for our dance classes.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop classes focus on the fundamentals of Hip Hop dancing. Students will learn the history along with the various techniques and elements such as popping, locking and breakdance through a number of different activities, structures and choreographed combinations within the class.
